MOUNT CARMEL PUBLIC LIBRARY ANNOUCES NEW PROGRAM!!!
MCPL TECHNOLOGY: CHECK OUT A LAPTOP COMPUTER!!!
Mount Carmel Public Library has received an Expanding Digital Inclusion grant to fund a new project called MCPL Technology. With this grant, the library will narrow the digital gap for adults in our community by providing state -of-the art Lenovo ThinkPad laptop computers.
The library's adult cardholders will have access to a total of six Lenovo ThinkPad laptops and six mobile hotspots in sturdy cases that are available for checkout! Six to check out and take home. MCPL Technology provides laptops for home, work or school use to assist patrons in recovering from the pandemic.
Lenovo think pad laptops will allow our patrons to file job applications, social security or unemployment forms, online documents, attend virtual meetings, visit with loved ones, transact business remotely, and assist adult/mature students with remote learning, just to name a few.
The mobile hotspots will allow our patrons to have internet at any location. A hotspots is a wireless internet access point that lets you connect to phones, tablets, computers, and other devices when you are traveling and away from your home or office, The Mount Carmel Public Library is pleased to provide this new circulation item to help you connect to resources, including our online data bases and catalogue when you are on the go.
All of the laptops will have OPENDNS content filtering form CIPA compliance. And Security Suit Software. When laptops are returned, the staff will use this program to delete all information added, plus any changes to configuration. Rebooting the Lenovo ThinkPad laptop computers will reset them to ensure the privacy of our users.
Funding for this grant was awarded by the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the provisions of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA).
